When I designed this setting, I wanted to recreate the ethereal atmosphere evoked by Arwen's chamber in The Twin Towers. I hung old curtains around an enchanted forest tapestry to create the forest view from Arwen's chamber. I made a banner like the one shown in the movie. The elven leaf pattern is woven throughout the decorations and a basket of lembas bread is actually wrapped granola bars. I made the Rivendell sign and Galadriel's Swan Boat pictures by mounting paper on dollar store foam board because it is inexpensive and lightweight for hanging. I finished off both pieces with ribbon borders. The picture of Arwen was purchased on Zazzle.
Once I saw these mermaid Christmas ornaments, the idea for this tea party immediately bubbled to the surface. Most of my party displays include dollar store jars filled with theme related treats. I jazzed up a picture of a mermaid I had already made by adding pink and blue glittery accents. The napkin rings are made from paper towel rolls that were cut and covered in ribbon. Spray painted sea shells served as accents. For fun, I added a bowl of Jellyfish Jokes which were a big hit.
I enjoy creating vintage versions of fairy tales as I did with this Snow White display. The large poster is by Jessie Wilcox Smith. I fashioned the stone hut by adding rocks and some moss to a wooden birdhouse. Snow White was a repurposed broken angel ornament. My picture of the wicked queen sits behind a spell for poison apples. I chose to draw sticklike letters to reflect the forest's important role in the story. The old illustrations by the apple basket were found on Zazzle.
Birds have always been an endless source of fascination for me. It was fun creating the fanciful birds shown around the wreath. Party favors included recycled containers filled with bird seed, bird seed cakes, and play binoculars fashioned from toilet paper rolls. I topped two bird statues with flower hats and made tiny banners for a birdhouse. (One statue inspired the drawing entitled Fleur in my gallery.) I upcycled the small cabinet by painting it and adding decoupaged fabric birds. I weave details into each party setting so it becomes a feast for the eyes.
Even the smallest of guests drink from a fancy tea cup at my house. Everyone loved the crowned frog centerpiece. I found the sweet cloth doll at Target and embellished her dress with a handmade flower. Vintage and modern illustrations were part of my display. They are mounted on foam board and framed with beaded scrapbooking trim. I drew a tiny crowned frog then copied it to make cupcakes toppers.
For this pink party, antique illustrations inspired my version of the slumbering princess. Above her, hangs my handcrafted banner adorned with homemade flowers. Copies of antique illustrations were purchased on Zazzle and mounted on foam board. The two fairies were fashioned out of silk flowers and wooden beads. Floral napkin rings were fashioned from an empty paper towel roll that was cut up and covered with ribbon.
